The Texas Chiropractic Association (TCA) is pleased to announce that Gov. Greg Abbott has signed a declaration proclaiming October 2016 as“Chiropractic Health Month.”

“In this day and age, it is easy to overlook the crucial value of personal health.  Having a healthy and wholesome lifestyle can get lost in the shuffle of our everyday  challenges, even though it is the binding agent of a long and happy life,” said Gov. Abbott in the proclamation. “Therefore, we, as Texans, must remember the importance of maintaining personal health. Thankfully, Texas chiropractors are dedicated to doing just that.”

The proclamation goes on to state, “In the State ofTexas, there are more than 5,000 licensed Doctors of Chiropractic who, as physician level providers, promote musculoskeletal health, overall wellness and disease prevention by encouraging their patients and the public to maintain a healthy lifestyle through good nutrition, regular exercise and restful sleep.”

“On behalf of TCA, we thank Gov. Abbott for recognizing the chiropractic profession by declaring October as Texas Chiropractic Health Month,” said TCA President Tyce Hergert, DC, of Grapevine, who owns his own practice in Southlake. “Our governor recognizes the value of chiropractic and the outstanding care provided by our doctors across the state. Texas chiropractors are dedicated to making all Texans healthier.”

Texas Chiropractic Health Month is held in conjunction with the American Chiropractic Association (ACA) and its Chiropractic Health Month, which is observed nationwide. The goal is to raise public awareness of the benefits of chiropractic care and its natural, whole-person, patient-centered approach to health and wellness. During Chiropractic Health Month, chiropractors in Texas and across the country will be provide information about pain management options and chiropractic’s drug-free approach to treating back pain, neck pain and other musculoskeletal disorders.

According to ACA President David Herd, DC, “It’s important for the public to be aware of non-drug options for treating pain available to them. Chiropractic services and other conservative forms of care are an important first line of defense against musculoskeletal pain and may, in some cases, lessen or eliminate the need for over-the-counter and prescription painkillers.”

TCA provides protection, state-wide advocacy, information and education for the nearly 5,400 Doctors of Chiropractic (DCs) who actively practice in Texas, including its 1,400-plus members. TCA works hard to advocate the position that the citizens of Texas should have adequate access to the health care of their choice and that DCs are adequately represented in the government’s decision-making process. TCA supports the statutory authority of the individual practitioner to examine, analyze and/or diagnose the human body by any method taught by an accredited chiropractic college and to use all methods of examination or therapeutics taught by these colleges that are within the legal scope of chiropractic practice.
