Fwd: Digital Dementia. It’s Not Coming, It’s Here

The bad news is unless you fully understand how to assess the brain and see the neurology behind normal human function you are going to have difficulties getting these patients well.

Or less bluntly, you will have patients that no matter what you try don’t get completely better.

First of all – what is Digital Dementia?

“Digital Dementia”, a term coined by top German neuroscientist Manfred Spitzer in his 2012 book of the same name, is a term used to describe how overuse of digital technology is resulting in the breakdown of cognitive abilities in a way that is more commonly seen in people who have suffered a head injury or psychiatric illness.

Individuals who rely heavily on technology may suffer deterioration in cerebral performance such as short term memory dysfunction. While many of us grew up remembering phone numbers and other key information simply by memorizing it, most kids today have grown up not needing to remember things like phone numbers because we have devices that do it for us.

“Over-use of smartphones and game devices hampers the balanced development of the brain,” Byun Gi-won, a doctor at the Balance Brain Center in Seoul, told the JoongAng Daily newspaper.

From our friends, Dr. Mark Wade and Dr. Krista Burns at the American Posture Insitute:

Now we know that if you are reading this then you are not the kind of practitioner that sits idly by and accepts defeat.

Nope, you know there is something missing and you are looking for a way to make it to that next level of expertise.

That level where you confidently know what every patient is suffering from, specifically, and know with certainty how to correct it. That level where you can see the neurology behind movement, posture, and function, and see where it is dysfunctional. That level that gets results like no other doctor can.

You already know from the first part of this 4 part training series that we suffered from the same “lack of knowledge”. Don’t get me wrong we got GREAT results . . . . . with some of our patients, and not so great results with others. Maybe you see this in your practice as well.

Did you miss the first part of the series? Get it here!

The answer was right in front of us. Problem was we didn’t know how to read the signs. We realized there was a whole new level of patients being created from all the technology out there.

You have already heard about “Tech Neck”. The problem is this has now evolved into a neurologic deficit called Digital Dementia. Which is literally the early degeneration of parts of the brain from sedentary overuse of technology.

These are patients that are suffering from postural distortion patterns of course. But, now they are also suffering from neurologic deficits as well. We should be able to understand and help these patients with our schooling right?? Wrong.

Sure we got taught neuro anatomy. Problem was we were never taught the connection. We were taught neurologic analysis, but never the connection between the test and human function, and certainly not practical, implementable correction strategies.

That is why we set out on a 3-year mission, and a $100,000 journey learning everything about neurology that we could. We have taken the most prestigious neurology programs available, with more than 50 certifications, 1,000 hours in continued education, even a prestigious certification in Clinical Neuroscience from Duke University.

Know what that got us? Back to square one! All that expensive knowledge, prestigious information, and on going seminar series taught us everything, but we were still missing out how to help our Digital Dementia patients. Or our typical back pain patients. Or David, whom you met in Video 1 of this 4-part free training. (Didn’t see Part 1? Click here to access it)

This is why we created this training. Because we spent so much time and money, hoping to be able to get quick, and easy, effective and objective results with our patients.

Not the coma patients, or traumatic brain injury patients. The patients we see every day. Well if you know Dr. Krista & I, we want quick & easy protocols, while always maintaining effective & objective results.

If you are ready to start getting some of those protocols, no problem. Part 2 is getting ready to be released soon. Just putting on the finishing touches, and making sure you get the most up to date, and practical information possible. Get excited because that video is coming out very soon.
